Paddock - Castlemaine

The Paddock eco village is on 1.39 hectares of light bushland, just 1.4km from the centre of Castlemaine.
The traditional owners of the land are the DjaDja Wurrung people.
The aim of the Paddock is to show that it is possible to build wonderful homes, that are healthy and beautiful while designing to bring back health and vitality to the land. The site was analysed for its ecological capacity before design started and the design reflected the intent to create an environment that could bring back the powerful owl, the growling grass frog, the legless lizard, the local glider, and the golden sun month.
The project is over 50% complete, and already there are frogs, moths and even an owl spotted. Those already living there have installed nesting boxes and have been trained in how to care for the local grasses.
The homes have been designed according to the Living Building Challenge standard.
