The goal of this project was to allow Aboriginal environmental knowledge on managing threatened species and their habitats to lead to developing a plan specifically for Koalas. The foundation was the use of Gumbaynggirr ideology through our story lines and the associated cultural keystone species. It identified and used Gumbaynggirr cultural protocol and lore for Aboriginal engagement in threatened species conservation. Other components included :
• increased capacity of Aboriginal groups to lead and participate in conservation actions such as pest and fire management and biodiversity monitoring
• increased delivery of conservation programs by Aboriginal groups
• encourage the participation of Indigenous females in environmental management
